A 2001 BMW 5-Series was involved in a crash as the driver was reportedly speeding on Vanowen Street In Los Angeles when it collided with a Toyota Camry that was making a left turn onto Platt Avenue. Authorities report that the BMW toppled a traffic signal, downed electric wires, and sheared a fire hydrant as the car was ripped in half. Because of the electric wires, rescuing crews could not immediately gain access to the accident until the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was able to turn the power off. When the LA Department of Water and Power arrived, the driver and passenger of the BMW were pronounced dead as they were trapped inside the vehicle during the crash. The woman driver of the Camry was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. She was later released.
